Late Monday Preview and New Photos

I know it's actually Tuesday, so my Monday Preview is a little late. I got this fabric around Easter time, and thought it would be just perfect for a sweet JSK:

It's actually been sitting half finished in my atelier for a few weeks now. And hopefully I will have it finished by the end of this week, and posted! I'm actually working on a few commissions for non-Lolita garments, so that's why I'm shooting for the end of this week rather than later today or tomorrow, as usual.

Today our power went out for a few hours, so it gave me an excuse to finally get some other photos up of my garments on me! I've updated a few listings in my shop with the new pics, and here's some other for your viewing pleasure (clicking on the pic will take you that particular listing in my shop):

^Personal favorite from this session. ^_^

^Keep in mind that when I say the power was out, I also mean the A/C. It was over 80* in my apartment, so I'm feeling really hot and really tired.

You might've noticed the friend I'm posing with in a few of the shots. I think the plushies look way cuter being held than just sitting by themselves on the floor. :3

Doing this session of photos reminded me that I really need to start working on other headbands! I don't own any myself, and the only two I even have around are the two I've made to go with things to sell. So, in addition to getting the above JSK finished, I also need to get to work on some lovely solid color headbands for my shop ^_^

Cuddly Plushies

This week has been really unproductive. It all started on Tuesday, after spending the day with my mother for her birthday. I started feeling unwell, with all the fun things: headache, sore throat, etc. Now this is usually when I start feeling a little freaked out and panicky. Anything involving throat aches and me is usually bad. I've had a history of horribly horrible throat aches, and feeling one come on is never good news. Fortunately, this time around, my throat didn't get worse, and the pain was gone the next day. Sadly, it was replace by nausea and body aches, which meant I couldn't even play video games because I was feeling that woozy. So I slept, a lot. And had a Nip/Tuck-a-thon via Netflix. As they say, time heals everything from a broken heart, to a really bad cold, so here I am, four days later, feeling mostly normal.

Now onto the cuteness.

I meant to post these lovely plushies Tuesday or Wednesday, but we all know how that turned out. Group shot:

These are just prototypes. I'm fairly happy with them, so they'll probably end up staying like this. They're totally soft, and extremely lovable! I think they're also a good representation of the different Lolita styles: the bear is classic, the bunny is sweet, and the kitty is gothic.
So basically, I have this massive pile of lovely anti-pill fleece. When I first started selling things on Etsy, I was mainly doing backpacks made of the stuff. So, naturally I sorta stocked up. And then I changed my mind about doing bags, but I still have a huge stash of fleece... So I remembered I made this zombie face months ago, and still sleep with it every night:

^this was a super super prototype, as I'd never done an actual plushie before. Soo it's not really an animal or anything, just a representation of zombie cuteness :3

And so I re-visited the idea of doing super cute plushies, and hence bear-face, bunny-face, and kitty-face were born! I also have some really lovely digital representations of these creatures which I'll be posting in the near future. :3

^That's how big and cuddly they are :3

Monday Preview

If you've seen my latest Facebook status, I stated I was working on something new. I also mentioned fleece and stuffing. Well guess what my Monday Preview is?

That's right - something soft and cuddly - made of fleece and stuffed :3 I actually finished a few prototypes today, and I'll be posting them sometime this week. Tomorrow's my mother's birthday, so I'll be spending the majority of my day with her.

I also have a super cute JSK I've been working on for the past week, but I haven't been able to finish it. /: Look forward to seeing that as my next Monday Preview if not sooner ^_^

Ooh, and one more thing! I acquired a DeviantArt account last nite. I'll be working on getting a new button up over there <----, but until then this link should suffice. I know it seems kinda random, but I'd really like to get more involved in the community, and this is my way of reaching out ^__^ There's only a few pieces posted so far, but I'm working on getting the rest of my work uploaded.

Punk Lolita Skirt Picture Spam

This is the finished piece from yesterday's Preview ^_^ I didn't think I'd be able to take any pictures because it's been super overcast and rainy all day ;__; It's supposed to be like that all week, so I went ahead and gave it a shot! The pictures came out a lot better than anticipated, and I had a lot of fun with my new tripod! ^__^ I've gotta say, my clothing looks so much better being worn than just hanging on a mannequin. Get ready for the picture spam:

^My personal favorite <3

^I've been working on growing out my nails, and this is the only pic you can really see them ^_^

I also made a few gifs because.... I thought they were super cute and couldn't help myself :3

This piece is now in my shop - go give it a visit for all the details ^_^

Monday Preview & Tripod

My tripod came today! As you can see, it's nothing too fancy - I just needed something super basic to hold my camera for me, which this promises to do for $6. I'm super excited to start using it ^_^

So I have this idea I'm going to try and have (at least once a week) a preview of what garment I'm currently working on, and then I'll post the finished piece the next day. Have a look:

I actually started working on it late Thursday night. I've had a super busy weekend though, so I'll be working on finishing it today. I'll be posting the finished piece tomorrow - maybe with the help of my new tripod, I'll be wearing it ^_^

Business Cards

My new business cards came in the other day.. I'm quite happy with them! ^_^

Since I'm on the topic of branding/marketing, I suppose I'll show what my garment tags look like as well.

For now I'm just going with the same solution I've been using since I opened my shop on Etsy nearly a year ago - printing them out myself on fabric paper. I know it's not the best solution, and the paper stuff is kinda rough, but that's the best I can do for now. I've found some amazing, high-quality looking ones done by a seller on Etsy that are super affordable, so I'll probably be doing that in the near future.

Facebook

I just published a facebook page for Elegy Clothing. ^_^ For some reason I'm super nervous about this, and I'm pretty certain I won't have many fans, but I'm giving it a shot anyways. I'll be using this page to display pictures of my work, posting shop updates, running contests (hopefully!), etc. Thanks in advance for giving it a look n__n

Fashion Illustration & Sketching

This part always used to be my favorite. Before I was a competent sewer (seamstress?), sketching would get me all excited about the things I'd soon be able to make. Since my sewing ability has risen considerably, I spend a lot less time sketching, and way more time sewing. So I'm going back to the basics. I'm getting back into sketching. I've never ever posted any of my sketches online. Ever. I'm absolutely terrified of rejection and humiliation, but it's time to get over that. Sketching will help organize my ideas/thoughts/and future projects.
After all, wouldn't you like to receive a nice print of the sketch of the garment you just purchased from me? ^_^

To sketching I will go.

A Proper Introduction

Well.. I suppose it's time for me to introduce myself. I am Miss Chubi-chan (that Chubi is pronounced like "chew-bee", not "chubby"!), and welcome to my blog! I'll admit it - I'm pretty new to the Lolita fashion. In fact, I'm still working on transforming myself. But it's something I've admired and known about for years. I've never quite been into the "mainstream" way of dressing/fashion anyways, and I've always been searching for my niche. I think I've found it. I've only been actively wearing Lolita out in public for a weeks now, because I was having the hardest time finding shoes... I'll save that for another post though.

Anyways, I have an overwhelming love for Lolita and everything it stands for. I've done a few Lolita pieces as requests in my Etsy shop, and it's been since that I've decided to really go for it. Now, as I stated before, I am rather new to Lolita, so it may seem odd that I'm going all out in making myself/my brand totally Lolita-focused, but it's the only way to do it with the amount of passion I have for it. Honestly, I'm not really involved with the Lolita community online either. I'd love to be! But it seems like there's a lot of hate in the community, and I don't really feel like being put down (I do that to myself enough).

So, I'm in the process of creating this Lolita clothing brand: Elegy. I did in fact go to school for Fashion Design, and this is what I've wanted for years. The name Elegy was inspired by one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. So every time I think about my brand, I hear their song in my head and I get happy ^_^ It's also befitting to the Gothic/Classic Lolita style I want my brand to be.

I have really big dreams and goals for Elegy, but it's going to take some time as I am only one person. In a few days I should be getting my new business cards in (ooh, I can't wait!), so I'll definitely be posting those.
(And next up on my "to get" list is a tripod, so I can actually have pictures of me in my brand :3 haha.)

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

So, I've finally gone and done it. Made myself a serious big-person blog, that is. Tumblr has been my main source of blogging for my brand, and well... I have nothing against Tumblr, but I'm just growing up I suppose. I'll still get on Tumblr and post and everything, this is just a better/more professional outlet. I have some really big plans and dreams for my brand, and this is a way for me to make sure I'm keeping on track and progressing towards my goals.
About the name. I have a serious history of not making up my mind, and then changing it a lot. I've given this one a lot of thought, and it's a sort-of re-branding for me anyways. For those of you who may have been keeping tabs with what I've been up to, you may have noticed a dramatic change in my shop items, etc. Basically when I opened my Etsy shop nearly a year ago, I was pretty confident I would fail. So I didn't really do anything that I really loved or totally believed in because I didn't want to get too attached to it, and then get ultimately crushed.
It's only been recently that I've finally discovered/realized what direction I'd like to go into long-term. Lolita. Yep, that pretty much sums it up.
I'll be chronicling my journey forth into the looking glass.
